Databricks bought Tecton
A bold AI play π²
Big news: Databricks just bought Tecton in a strategic chess move. Tecton is a platform that turns raw data into machine learning features (the inputs AI models use) and serves them instantly for real-time AI applications.
Databricks and Snowflake have been the two giants battling for control of how companies store and use their data. They really are the Android vs iOS of the data world.
Tecton was like Switzerland π¨π- they worked with everyone. But now that Databricks owns them, that neutrality is gone. This is Databricks trying to say: "if you want the best AI tools, you need to use OUR entire platform."
The days of mixing and matching the best tools from different vendors, best-of-breed style, are getting harder. Itβs a tough choice for data teams. You're increasingly locked-in: pick one big platform and stick with it. π¬
If you're using Tecton with Snowflake right now, you should be asking some hard questions about your setup. Will Tecton still prioritize Snowflake users? How long before features start favoring Databricks? Time will tell, but also, time to act! π
